HD Movies

You have to check out the BBC Motion Gallery. Especially this HD movie from Quicktime. Its a different experience. Also check out the theatre at the BBC Motion Gallery. Talking about HD movies, they have been around for some time, but now quicktime gives it to you in a format thats much easier to download and without any special plugins.

You have to have Quicktime 7

Uncommon creativity..?

Have you ever felt like you could use an extra hand at something you were doing? Ever wondered if others felt the same too? You may not realize it but sometimes we can be geniuses in our own right, and i'm not just saying this to get your attention. There been few very few, inventions that was built purely on the strength of one man(or woman's) ideas solely. All the so called inventions, mega ideas, great products relied on something already existing or some theory etc..... inshort they have been helped by people who were generous enough to do that.

Today however in an ever increasing world of intense competition, fast paced economies, and layoffs, people aren't that inclined to share anymore. We have copyright today to stop people from infringing on our work. I have nothing against copyrights... I do feel its is good.

However I have always believed that your ideas could do much more if others were given an opportunity to tinker with them. Not that you are good...... i do believe you are, however sharing that expertise of yours with a different mind would definitely give your idea/thought a different perspective. Now just imagine if that could exponentiate!

There would also be reservations say if a cure for Aids was found with your idea, i know... you may also want some credit for it. And what if I told you that, all this can be possible at the same time. For those of you who do generate work that is copyright ( do you know that the moment you generate something its already copyrighted to you?) like say a blog like this or an essay, poem , story, an mp3 song, a video you shot etc. If you create any of these and you would like to share it to the world and they share it again provided they give you credit or they do not make make money out off it here is a solution Creative Commons.

You can get a license like the one on the bottom right of this blog that means you are ready to share your ideas/work with the world. Remember the world is in need of giants to give shoulders for it to stand on.

conversations

My boss and I had an engaging conversation for almost 10 minutes today on the US Open. What's the big deal you may ask, anybody could talk about the US Open for 10 minutes!

Well for starters, considering the fact that he was talking about golf and me tennis, I think 10 minutes was by far neat!

on fonts

will this font thing work? Have you noticed the articles in magazines etc. start with huge font sizes and then taper down to a more readable size. Well I decided to try that out on this blog too.

Carface!

And thats my face!
i so like tiger, the OS from apple. what u see above is the rss feed of this blog on my desktop.

now i kinda know why eve couldn't refuse the apple.

directions anyone?

lots of people ask me for directions. Infact i have been asked for directions in shopping malls, on streets, in the toilet etc.

I guess it has to do with the friendly :-) face i have or is it because i have a certain janitorial class about me ??? (lets leave that for a different post)

Well, so i was at changi airport in singapore reading a book, awaiting my flight when i see this lady rushing upto me. Instantly deducing that she is gonna ask for directions to the boarding gates, i glanced around to quickly check the gates nearby so i can direct her soon and be about my work.

however, it took longer than i expected as i realised that the "boarding gate" she was searching for the past 15 minutes, "32 F" was her actual seat on the plane.

I so want to blame the airline.

Podcasting!

This was too good to ignore, especially the iPod Priest. The site is cool too.

Btw what do you think, I should start podcasting too? Let me know!

Moreover there aren't many podcasts of our class, if you know what I mean. Like this blog is, a specially flavoured blend, reverent yet irrelevant, spicy yet nicey and finally something that definitely makes you want to bang ur head on the nearest possible hard surface.

Kinda like when confucious said, "Coconut no break head", it led a lot of the easterners to break their coconuts on their heads (which would explain their slightly dimunitive stature in those times) what he actually meant after unuccessfull attempts and a bruised head was that coconut no break with head!

See what happens because the spoken word was not spoken well enough!

So for the common good of all you out here, I think i finally decided to go ahead with podcasting (can't stop thinking about all the heads that will be banged). Stop me if you can!

and thou shalt Go forth and Search!!!

Funny thing this blogger, though its backed by the greatest search engine of our times, it does not have a search feature.

I guess its upto me to once again set things right in the universe. Thanks to the innate wisdom of Dave I can now offer you the power to traverse into the depths of the unfathommable.

Go forth and Search!

As they say in the language of those who see beyond the seen,

You can't make an omlette without breaking an egg.*

common zense?

I do feel that this whole Zen thing is just catching up too fast. According to me "Zen" was the precursor to blogging in the east.

You see the far east can get pretty cold in the winters, and often conversation was halting. There was also the fact of your words getting lost in the harsh winds of the season.

But as we have bloggers today, there were people in those times too who had a penchant for making others suffer by subjecting them to their non-stop banter. However taking into account the harsh climate and the winds, not all of that which was spoken was heard.

The result was phrases like, "Don't use Canon ball to kill mosquito."

the orginal sentence would have been more like this.

"Don Quixote? never heard of the guy. Can you pass me some tea please? I found a better use for chopsticks today! Did you know that it works better if you hold it in one hand? I think that in the future people will come up with stupid names like Canon to brand themselves.that makes two of us. you know that girl down the street, she's got looks that could kill. You know confucious, the mosquitoes might stop biting if you shut up!

Coming back to life in this century.....this zen thing has caught up with me too. So you have me doing the "Zen routine." You know take a bath everyday, levitate for 2 hours, talk to the spirits of the Zen master in Shambala once a week...( OK .....so i was kidding about the bath!)

a thousand apologies

the quality of my work notwithstanding, i was wondering at the absence of any comments whatsoever on this beautiful chunk of bytes i call a blog.

C'mon face it, anybody would love to hear something about themselves and though devoid of any life like characterictics this blog also yearns for the same.

It is at this precise moment of absolute contemplation of the absence of any written structure of a collection of alphabets( a.k.a. a comment) that it dawned on me that i had forgotten to turn on anonymous commenting. Sorry once again, however you can all breathe a sigh of relief as the damage has been reversed such that your praise would have another place on the net befitting your stature, namely my blog.

is not the commandment, "thou shall not leave thy neighbours blog uncommented", familiar to us all?

spirit of the practice

Relaxing with the others after zazen* one evening, Owl asked, "What is the spirit of the practice?"

Raven said, "Inquiry."

Owl cocked his head and asked, "What do I inquire about?"

Raven said, "Good start."

*Zazenis the seated practice of focused inquiry and attunement.

the traveller

humility....

the seeker asked, "Master, teach me humility."

"I wish I knew," replied the master.

"Humility," said the master after a while,"is the only virtue, the moment you know you have it you lose it."

the inside story!

Today was some day. Spent the whole day indoors. i couldn't believe that i could actually spend a whole day without going outdoors but i did it.

I had originally thought about having lunch outside but you see in my last post i survived on bread, bananas & Nescafe. I thought might be i drop out for dinner. And finally after a long mental struggle, i managed to walk out my front door to the gate, and i find a Pizza promotion flyer on the gate.

So presto the number gets dialled and an agonizing hour later i have my delicious( thats what the company claims) Pan pizza, Garlic bread & salad with Ice Tea delivered at my doorstep.

I cannot explain the feeling my stomach is going through though. As the slogan rightly puts it, "Making it Great". I don't know what is it that they make great.....lets just hope its not the small rumblings in my stomach!

Man does not live on Bread Alone

I second the above....however this post has nothing to do with religion...it just explains my plight over the day.

I have been existing for the past 36 hours on nothing but bread, Nescafe & bananas. I know its nothing out of the way...but lets blame it on laziness. Just couldn't get out to buy some real dinner, breakfast or lunch. Just hope that this thing wouldn't last too long.

I crave food. Really. Food.

By the way I got this new mug that has a real cool pic of musical instruments on it. Coudn't find a pic of it on the net. might be i need to post a pic of it. its like cool.

For those of u wondering why the sudden interest in brands etc, well the truth is product placement has gotten to blogs too. Lets just hope Nescafe sees this blog!

Zen

The seeker said, " you haven't talked about death very much. I am not concerned about where i will go, but watching so many family members die, I'm wondering what happens at the point of death?"

The master was silent. Then he spoke.

"I give away my belongings."

And I named myself......really!

I am not sure any of you reading this blog may share a decision that i was empowered to make. Well.......I named myself.....well at least i picked out a name for myself.

It all happened when I was all of month old. It was time to for me to be named, and my Dad deviating from the norm of asking friends and relatives pick a name for me, decided that after all when I'm big I would definitely question the origins of my name, and he didn't want to explain it then chose to let me pick my name.

The process was pretty simple a lot of names were written and I picked my name Dony (well that the most a kid of 1 month can do to choose its own name!)

And Lo! my name is Dony Peter Chacko.

----------------------------------------------------
Notes to Myself:

Thats a little too much bragging for a 4 letter name that was essentially picked by somebody before you chose it.

Brushing

First it was brushing once. Then it was brushing twice a day. They said it was better dental hygiene. Now its after every meal. God knows whats gonna be next........Stop brushing when you need to pop something into your mouth???

I sincerely do feel that this brushing once, twice, whatever ..... is another brilliant marketing ploy by toothbrush companies, playing on the humans who are insecure or have bad breath or both.

Recent research* has shown that not brushing your teeth even once a day has no noticeable effect on personal dental hygiene (the research however does not mention the condition of others in the vicinity).

What needs to be asked is not, "to brush or not to brush?" but "to trust or not to trust?".

Just ask yourself, "Is it really good for me to be poking myself with pointy haired stuff 3/4th of my waking life just so that I can spend the rest of my life keeping my mouth shut ( well that's inevitable 'cause of all that the brushing can do is scrape the rest of what's left of your tooth).

Gotta go now, I think it's time for a brush.

-------------------------
* Research : I did not brush yesterday and I felt real good. I think i have improved morale and self confidence too.

Rajnikanth ad on MTV

Have you seen the latest MTV asia non-smoking ad on MTV. Stars Rajnikanth. Cool Ad. Definitely worth a thumbs up.

Message is still the same smoking kills. But its kinda cool as it stars are very own Rajni Dada

And there's the purpose of reason

Chopsticks!!!

Confucious says, "Don't use chopstick to eat steak"

Today, learnt a couple of things regarding chinese chopstick etiquette. Never cross the chopsticks while eating! This enlightment was courtesy my chinese colleague. Intrigued nevertheless, I googled "chopstick use" and found that there is more to it.

Also Chopstick use causes arthritis of the hand!!!!

There is also a guide to using chopsticks that shows how wrong chopstick manners may ....well....insult dead people.

* BTW isn't it really cool to write posts with lots of links in it, makes you look like a research scholar....which ironically i'm trying to be as i finish my thesis. Thankfully my topic has to do more with carpal tunnel syndrome than maybe arthiritis!

Live Cargo!

Found another site that makes life a bit more easier. Ever found it was impossible to send that favourite video just cause your email service wouldn't support such a large file. Well those qualms are now over. Just click on the link above and start sharing files like never before.

The Blogs!

The thing with me as my father rightly used to put it, " Consistently Inconsistent!".

And the same goes for my blogs too, you have a sudden rush and make around a dozen blogs all around the place, and then you don't why you had so many blogs in the first place.

So I had one blog here and another one here and one more here and some blogs on certain issues like how to get your blog noticed! and social issues like this and blogs that were meant to be blogged but couldn't get enough care

Well, i have now decided to just concentrate on one blog, the one here!

Phew, that was a blog heavy post!
