[[Blessings]] Hooray! Christmas is finally here. Wishing all of you the blessings of this wonderful season of joy!

Our Christmas tree, here in Bangkok.

Camera toss anyone?

Ever tossed a camera before? Well that requires technique now! Yep camera tossing is the art of taking photographs by tossing the camera into the air. There's a blog that even has a few tips about it. And also a group on flickr that has camera tossing fans.

Cute.....

[[PHOTOS]] More of a series of snaps I took of a cute friend of mine, Ann Mary.

Action blog?

[[Blog]] A new blog on the horizon, something that promises action....The photos definitely hint as much! Check out this blog here.

Got Dubaied???

[[Jobs]] First it was Bangalore, now i think its Dubai's turn at getting outsourced.

"The city-state, part of the United Arab Emirates, has kicked off an effort to land some of the outsourcing work that is heading to countries with low labor costs like India and China. But instead of trying to compete head-to-head against those giants, the country is positioning itself as a place where companies can place their more senior or more qualified employees who may not want to live in Bangalore or Mumbai". More here.

India however has a long standing tradition in technology, from as early as 1946. Here's a report tracing the chronology of India's tech rise.

[[PHOTOS]] Have been taking a lot of snaps these days. Thought I'd paste some i like. More to follow.

This was taken just beside where i live in bangkok.

browser, anyone?

[[Web]] I was just checking my blog stats and wasn't surprised to find that the majority of visitors to this site still use IE. Here's the breakup.

Guess you still haven't heard about Firefox, the coolest browser in town. Its definitely the best of the lot, and the gr8 part about it is the extension you can add on to it, and this enables it to do stuff that other browsers can think about. It also had tabbed browsing much before IE incorporated it ( have they done it?......i haven't used IE for an year almost).

Click this button and get the coolest browser in town.

Get Firefox!

I am not making any money on this thing. Its just that i love this browser.

got this today.

[[Mail]] *

Dear Dony,

I would like to inform you that I will return you to XXXXXX or administrator at the 3th floor, A building which means that you have to find a new advisor. For next year, my thesis quota is full.

Take care.

[[Rebuttal]] *

How do you expect somebody to take care of oneself after you get a mail like this? Anyways just for the record, did my 4 chapters in 36 hrs flat.

linked?

[[Network!]] Face it. We are living in a world that is becoming increasingly networked. And your future well depends on the network of people you know.

There have been social networking sites such as hi5 and friendster around that do a gr8 job of helping you keep in touch with people. But this new site LinkedIn gives the network another angle. It helps you boost your professional capabilities by letting you network with others for job opportunities, business opportunites etc.

In short what earlier used to be a referral for a job in your small circle of friends just got expounded to the web. And this is not just a site for those who need jobs, it is also a place where you can meet like minded people to network with for business ventures, those brilliant ideas of yours for implementation or to just find a capable person to fill in a vacancy at your work place.

Nice to know that people are begining to help each other even if they need technology to do it for them.

Click on this button to get linked.

Sunday.

[[Really?]]

Sorry, but I don't post on sundays.

let your photo know u!

[[PHOTOS]] * Now isn't that cool. You can upload those tons of snaps that you make with your digital cameras, and you don't even have to label them! No more DSC00000 whatever pics.... Photo blogging just became cooler.

This site however is still in alpha and doesn't support any browser other than IE ( I know its lame) and the software you have to download works only for Windows :( .

On the plus side the concept is cool and the technology is amazing.

There is another site here that has a similar concept that also checks your photo to check which celebrity your photo matches. Try it.

TRIVIA

Both these sites have lots of Indian collaborations. Move over world, India is arriving

tech anyone?

The ease that technology provides is illusory. It has trapped you, made you a slave to things you don't even need but suddenly can't live without. So you rot in a cubicle trying to get the money to get the stuff, when you should be out walking in a meadow or writing a song.

Utopian claptrap, you sneer. So you put nose to grindstone, your life ebbing as you accumulate ... what?

Look around. Our collective humanity is dying a little more every day. Technology is killing life on the street -- the public commons, if you please. Chat rooms, text messaging, IM are all, technically, forms of communication. But when they replace yakking over the back fence or simply walking with a friend -- as they have for an increasing number of people in "advanced" societies -- then meaningful human contact is lost. Ease of use is small compensation.

The street suffers in other ways, too. Where you used to buy books from your local bookseller, you now give your money (by credit card, with usurious interest rates) to Amazon.com. Where you used to have a garage sale, you now flog your detritus on craigslist. Almost anything you used to buy from a butcher or druggist or florist you can now get online. Handy as hell, to be sure, and nothing touched by human hands. But little shops lose business and close, to be replaced, if at all, by cookie-cutter chain stores selling One Size Fits All. The corporations have got you right where they want you.

a world without clicks.

imagine a world without clicking. Yes i meant exactly that. Using your computer without having to constantly tap, hit, scratch on a mouse or track pad. Would such a world be even thinkable. (Hint: Computer started functioning way before the mouse was invented)

But i am not here to take you on a nostalgic trip to the 70's.

Dontclick.it takes you where no website has gone before. A site that claims that you don't have to click to live. Check it out. Its fun!

music.

I am really not into movie reviews. Frankly, i can't stand it. Tell me why would you have somebody tell you what a movie is like when u are gonna see it anyway. Then there is the bias that occurs because of a review, and what if the person who reviewed has a completely different viewpoint?

Kinda like you are watching a suspense filled movie and just before the plot is unravelled, somebody tells u how it ends. Well just take a review as this process happening before the movie has begun. ( Phew! had to say that someday).

BTW this post has nothing to do with my bias towards movie reviewers. I just watched the movie Lord of war yesterday and was surprised hear a familiar musical composition in the movie. During one of the scenes you hear the theme music of the film Bombay scored by A.R.Rehman.

Having heard enough of hollywood soundtracks in Indian movies......it does feel different hearing an Indian soundtrack in a hollywood production.

happenings!

Suddenly a lot of things seem to be happening like this coffee cup that knows what you are drinking, the Rockr really rocking? and the CIA still getting dirty.

But somethings never change like recently when Microsoft went offline when they went Live!

How can the company that built presentation software for the millions fail to give a decent presentation? or is it a sign of what can be expected of Microsoft Live? Only time will tell....( or does google already know?)

gone.

As i write this post i am feeling good. Well not exactly really good, just that there is no more incessant buzzing of my phone. And that feels good.

How did I do it? Didn't take much effort, I lost my phone....got into a taxi and it must have slipped out of my pocket. And lets just hope the driver doesn't know my number to call me back. The only sad thing about this event was that it was a phone i got just a couple of weeks back.

Well....thats life i guess. Must be THAT phone would have caused bigger problems.

For now.....I am enjoying the feel good factor of not having to attend any calls.

Power of One?

I have always been intrigued by this number.

One.

so little. yet so much more.

There's a movie about it.

Many people have showed us the power of one. One person willing to make a difference, often ridiculed, hated, oppressed but made the difference nevertheless. To paraphrase Apple's classic ad, "the people who think that they are crazy enough to change the world are the ones that do".

This campaign called the One Second Film uses the power of one, and this site for Katrina relief too. Be it in giving nickels, dollars or just being there, the power of one is a force to reckon with. For the true force of the 'power of one' isn't in numbers, it's in the unity of thought....that some say may even move mountains.

Can u change the world around you? You have the Power of One on your side.

iget. ipod....

Apple does it again. And this time they have brought video on the ipod. Just think of the possibilites. Now anybody can become a Star!

The day won't be far when you can catch me on a ipod near u.

blink.dony.blink

Ever had too many bookmarks or kept finding stuff on the net that u found difficult to keep somewhere. Moveover del.icio.us here comes blinklist.

The best part i love abt this site is the cloud feature that give you all your tagged pages at one glance with the ones with the most keywords on a bigger size. Looks really cool. You can see how mine looks here.

many posts.....one message.....joblessness!!

So I am finally getting to be what i was dreading.....tired of blogging. Sure the sun still shines bright and night comes after day, a zillion things are being invented and the no of bloggers are almost doubling every 6-7 months. So there would not be a vaccum in my absence.

Please do not get me wrong, I am not writing a eulogy yet to my blog life.....just that i was mulling over the possibility of a sabbatical.....till I am hit by the blogging bug again.

There has always been a steady stream of support in the form of comments / hate mail /spam, that i receive on account of this blog but your appreciation has kept me going.....especially this person who calls himself/herself "Anonymous" has been regularly commenting on this blog...Thanks dude for all the support.

Meanwhile came across this really cool wap site that some great stuff for download. It even has a cool little tool to browse wap sites.

Just got my bluetooth fixed...so you can understand the WAP fixation.

BTW Del.icio.us is still the coolest social bookmarking site and here's mine.

let the thesis begin!

And finally I start my thesis today.

I do see the thunderstorms approaching....its gonna be a long day today. I wsa thinking of keeping a blog to actually show my thesis progress, but the problem of posting it on this blog will have unforseen consequences....so well that may an idea for another blog...another day.

Wish me all the best!!!

Thesis here I come.

Legal.......and more

From the NYPost:

September 28, 2005 -- AMERICA'S first black female billionaire just got remarried. Sheila Johnson, the ex-wife of BET founder Robert Johnson, tied the knot with Judge William Newman at her Salamander Farm in Middleburg, Va., on Saturday. Newman met Johnson when he presided over her 2002 divorce case against Robert, her husband of 33 years. Newman's decision evenly split the $3 billion Johnson netted after Viacom bought BET.

Now thats what i call a legal investment option!

this is so slawesome!

After the long hiatus, the blogosphere has the opportunity to once again revel in my rants and raves.

Before i start my blogging odyssey, here's something wonderful i came across. They call it slawesome and i think its awesome

Slawesome is voice for your email. It basically allows you to send voice mail (whether that’s love mail, hate mail, music mail or street noise - I don’t know what I’m talking about - mail) to any email address in the world.

Its still in alpha stage so don't expect everything to work out smooth, but i do feel this is an idea with great potential.

noitca ni kcab !!!

i am so not flying Air Asia.

was a bit late for my flight( well maybe a lot), i had to catch a flight 6 hrs later on a full fare of 468 RM....

Anyways KL was fun....great food, great people and of course the twin towers.

back in action!!!!

i got up at 5.30 a.m for my flight that leaves KL at 1.30 p.m.

Don't get me wrong. i haven't become more consistent or time better prepared.

My Air asia flight was supposed to leave at 8.25 a.m. I reached the check in counter just in time ( or maybe a bit late) be

a thousand apologies!!!

I know.......Its been long. Have been a bit held up with some travelling. Will get back to blogging full time soon....as close as tomorrow onwards. till then....

Blog surfing!!

I decided to do some blog surfing today. Used the blogger navbar. It was funny out of the first 12 blogs that i came across,i could read only 3. Six were in foreign languages I didn't understand, 2 were absolutely horrible in content and 1 had only ads.

And what did i learn from this small experiment?

No, not that the world is made up of many cultures or the fact that i know very few languages. Wisdom speaketh.

"Every person who surfs blogs chances on an ad filled blog atleast once every 12 clicks".

So I shamelessly decided to try google's adsense on this blog. (Just in case you were wondering, its not for the money, I don't even live in a country where they can actually pay me). Its just that I am checking out if this service works.

Now according to their terms of service, "..........For example, your site cannot contain phrases such as "click here," "support us," "visit these links," or other similar language that could apply to any ad, regardless of content." That means I cannot post something thats says,

"CLICK ON THE ADS BELOW AND SUPPORT THIS BLOGGER",
or
"ONE LIFE.LIVE IT. ONE AD.CLICK IT."

Now for the real reason, that i am putting ads on my blog. I had written on one of my blogs (many of which have ceased to be updated) earlier, claiming that you can't actually make any money of this ad stuff. Look at this way. You have the ads on your blog/site, and nobody clicks through them (Lets assume for a moment that all the people who go through your blog are sane, rationalistic people who know that clicking on an online will only waste time and lead you to a place where you have to finally pay/mortagage your car/sell your house to actually get something of value).

So nobody clicks on the ads, but the ads have nevertheless been displayed and that means the advertiser has gotten some free eyeballs for nothing (except your generous stupidity). The advertiser gains, cause that is imprinted in the mind of the viewer and may lead to an url affair sometime later, while you are busy clicking on adsense checking why so many people visit your blog and yet you don't get any money.

Well, for now, I need a new website and I'm thinking of how i can pay for that unless of course this Google thing actually works. Peoples of the earth, you know what to do!

Life as it happens......instantly!

I have been wanting to write this for quite a lot of time, but then I guess today's the day.

As I written in an earlier post, there have been quite a lot of things I have experimented with in my hey days, from trying to develop an explosive to making a miniature flying craft to actually thinking about making my own parachute to crafting a flute out of bamboo (there was also the houseboat, the tree house and the designer stretch limo, quite ahead of its time but quite revolutionary, nobody thought of having a computer in a car in 1994, atleast not in India.)

All that was before I turned 14 years old.

Well then I got wilder if you must say, ending with a movie production in Bangkok which is still in the editing stage ( thats the best explanation you can give when you lose the original tapes.....ok i was just kidding about that....or maybe not all of the tapes).

I'd like to take some time now to thank all those people who have believed in me all this while I undertook one crazy project after another. Like Benny* and Asha* who played the lead roles in the movie production. Thanks guys I couldn't have experimented without you guys.

Now...its the time of the podcast. I have been working as a part-time evangelist on that one. You would be surprised to know how few actually know about it. So once again calling out my friends, detractors, smirkers, unbelievers and those just smitten by me, to stand by me as I begin one more of my adventures. Only this time I could use as much help as possible.

Thanks guys, you push me to the limit. ( I just hope we don't get too far motivating while on a rock climbing expedition).

no more secrets!

its final. I've decided that I will no longer be posting on my secret blog (yeah, the one with the nuclear and world domination ideas), but instead I will start using this blog more often.

Frankly it gets a bit tedious when you are writing 5 blogs (and the secret one), so I made a bold decision to boldly go where no other blogger has gone before. Get all the blogs on one blog. Actually this was an idea that occured to me in fall last year but you know technology!

So, I am back now in Jakarta after a short trip to Singapore ( spent the weekend there). Also on a slightly different note, I was going through some blogs and found that a lot of people post pics, and actually made an online travelogue with their blogs. Neither am I a Shutterbug, nor do i like to write a travelogue, however i still do like the idea. So i will start making an effort to post something of a journelogue (thats a word i made up!).

Fwd: this!

Today I got one of those hoax mails, claiming that there was a play being staged somewhere that depicted a particular religion in a bad light. And they needed me to add my list to 400 already on the mail to do something about it.

Why do people ever believe such things? why are they so naive? and more importantly why don't they for once use their minds to figure out that their putting a signature and sending it to everybody in their address book is not going to change a thing about the problem (if there was one) apart from making a few more people aware of their stupidity.

Anyways here are a couple of links to check out on these hoaxes.Truthminers is a good site to start of with checking for a hoax and this link shows shows how much it costs, everytime you are gullible enough to be fooled by one of these mails.

Remember, you have one unique ability that you can use if you want to. Its called common sense.

The real war on terror!

I don't know if this guy actually rehearses to give this constipated look every time he talks to the media. I am no fan of politics and like discussing it either, but this guy makes me do otherwise.

"When they are constantly on the run they can't plan attacks, so we and our allies will stay on the offensive," was what he said at the FBI academy today.

Read that as, we are busy trying to bust them in iraq & afghanistan that those guys have now moved onto America and Europe where they are having all the time they want to plan more attacks.

I do think that its high time bush stopped this nonsense of what he calls the war on terror. What he (or the people behind him) don't realize is that for every civilian that the american forces take out in the middle east, there is gonna be a blood cry. For that family, Bush sure is the terror, and it just gives rise to another individual crying out for justice. And mind you these are people who have felt pain close to their heart, that they are no longer fundamentalist terrorists, but people who believe they have been wronged.

They do not do it for religion or for beliefs, but for a personal sense of being wronged. What America is doing is spawning a new breed of individuals who just need an opportunity to get revenge. And the so called terrorists are not missing out on them either.

Face it we do not live in an era, where everybody forgives and forgets. Maybe they would if the feel its gonna make a difference, but with Bush's persistence on the war on terror, every human taken down will beget another baying for America's blood.

Life is precious to every man. And every man and woman does have the right to protect it. And no man or woman has any right to take however he/she might justify it. Period.

Freeeloaders!

well somebody's got to stop the freeloaders.

recently i just so happened to notice that the creamer just stopped getting refilled in the office. then it was the sugar. but when the hot water dispensing machine started dispensing cold water........ well thats a great way to send a cool message.

gotta get a coffee though. i think i see some creamer & sugar in the next office. wow!

In case you were wondering what i do, to have my coffee privileges illegally withdrawn, well heres my desktop screen. hope you get the idea!

HD Movies

You have to check out the BBC Motion Gallery. Especially this HD movie from Quicktime. Its a different experience. Also check out the theatre at the BBC Motion Gallery. Talking about HD movies, they have been around for some time, but now quicktime gives it to you in a format thats much easier to download and without any special plugins.

You have to have Quicktime 7

Uncommon creativity..?

Have you ever felt like you could use an extra hand at something you were doing? Ever wondered if others felt the same too? You may not realize it but sometimes we can be geniuses in our own right, and i'm not just saying this to get your attention. There been few very few, inventions that was built purely on the strength of one man(or woman's) ideas solely. All the so called inventions, mega ideas, great products relied on something already existing or some theory etc..... inshort they have been helped by people who were generous enough to do that.

Today however in an ever increasing world of intense competition, fast paced economies, and layoffs, people aren't that inclined to share anymore. We have copyright today to stop people from infringing on our work. I have nothing against copyrights... I do feel its is good.

However I have always believed that your ideas could do much more if others were given an opportunity to tinker with them. Not that you are good...... i do believe you are, however sharing that expertise of yours with a different mind would definitely give your idea/thought a different perspective. Now just imagine if that could exponentiate!

There would also be reservations say if a cure for Aids was found with your idea, i know... you may also want some credit for it. And what if I told you that, all this can be possible at the same time. For those of you who do generate work that is copyright ( do you know that the moment you generate something its already copyrighted to you?) like say a blog like this or an essay, poem , story, an mp3 song, a video you shot etc. If you create any of these and you would like to share it to the world and they share it again provided they give you credit or they do not make make money out off it here is a solution Creative Commons.

You can get a license like the one on the bottom right of this blog that means you are ready to share your ideas/work with the world. Remember the world is in need of giants to give shoulders for it to stand on.

conversations

My boss and I had an engaging conversation for almost 10 minutes today on the US Open. What's the big deal you may ask, anybody could talk about the US Open for 10 minutes!

Well for starters, considering the fact that he was talking about golf and me tennis, I think 10 minutes was by far neat!

on fonts

will this font thing work? Have you noticed the articles in magazines etc. start with huge font sizes and then taper down to a more readable size. Well I decided to try that out on this blog too.

Carface!

" I always tell the truth, even when i lie!"

And thats my face!
i so like tiger, the OS from apple. what u see above is the rss feed of this blog on my desktop.

now i kinda know why eve couldn't refuse the apple.

directions anyone?

lots of people ask me for directions. Infact i have been asked for directions in shopping malls, on streets, in the toilet etc.

I guess it has to do with the friendly :-) face i have or is it because i have a certain janitorial class about me ??? (lets leave that for a different post)

Well, so i was at changi airport in singapore reading a book, awaiting my flight when i see this lady rushing upto me. Instantly deducing that she is gonna ask for directions to the boarding gates, i glanced around to quickly check the gates nearby so i can direct her soon and be about my work.

however, it took longer than i expected as i realised that the "boarding gate" she was searching for the past 15 minutes, "32 F" was her actual seat on the plane.

I so want to blame the airline.

Podcasting!

This was too good to ignore, especially the iPod Priest. The site is cool too.

Btw what do you think, I should start podcasting too? Let me know!

Moreover there aren't many podcasts of our class, if you know what I mean. Like this blog is, a specially flavoured blend, reverent yet irrelevant, spicy yet nicey and finally something that definitely makes you want to bang ur head on the nearest possible hard surface.

Kinda like when confucious said, "Coconut no break head", it led a lot of the easterners to break their coconuts on their heads (which would explain their slightly dimunitive stature in those times) what he actually meant after unuccessfull attempts and a bruised head was that coconut no break with head!

See what happens because the spoken word was not spoken well enough!

So for the common good of all you out here, I think i finally decided to go ahead with podcasting (can't stop thinking about all the heads that will be banged). Stop me if you can!
